Second Life? Get a life!

If only I could. Tried setting up a Second Life account, but read the blurb first, including the spec. needed to run their software, and lo, my humble laptop (still not past its prime) isn't able to run it. Was going to look at it for possible use at work as a virtual classroom for a new distance learning course, but what use would that be - I couldn't access it to set it up, and most likely my students would have the same problem. The idea's dead in the water before even starting.

Linden claim Second Life is more than a game, but if it can only be run on gaming machines, that's all it will ever be, with the average computer effectively blocked from accessing it. Internet forums blame it on a conflict between Intel and Linden software, and indeed there may well be, but it's not up to Intel to solve the problem. If Linden wants Second Life to be more than a game, then it needs to write a second access programme that will work on just about any computer. OK, that may compromise speed, graphics and some features, but at least we can all have a go then.

Sorry Second Life, you've lost a potential customer, and done nothing to convince me that you are anything other than another online gaming site.

Oh dear, I hope I'm not turning into a grumpy old man!
