Whitby Cliff Collapse
Mud and soil landslip below St. Mary's church at Whitby, which happened last week. It has been stabilised and fortunately does not appear to be threatening the church, even though bones from the graveyard had to be re-interred after they fell into the gardens below. Just as importantly, the buildings underneath are safe at the moment as well, since they include Fortune's smokery, which has been there for over 160 years and produces the best kippers anywhere using the original traditional method!
