Backwater

A calm river backwater on a sunny day.  Then someone started using a sit on mower in a camping field behind, and an inflatable dingy with an outboard engine decided to come ashore.  Peace and quiet is just too much to ask!

Tweed at Dryburgh

Just back home from a visit to the Scottish Borders. Where would I sooner be? The Tweed is one of Britain's great rivers, a proper sparkling living river, not at all sluggish, muddy or slow.

The Great Divide

The Humber estuary, with the bridge in the distance (first try at HDR photo).

North is on the right hand side, south on the left. Hugely in debt, with a toll charge to cross. Destined to be part of eastern transport route connecting major ports, which was started, but never completed (British planning strikes again!). It used to be the longest single span suspension bridge in the world until beaten by the Japanese.

A wild and windswept place - get a feel for it here:

But...... better than being stuck at a desk in the office any day!
