Celandines

Heralds of spring, braving heavy rain, stormy winds and the winter cold.

Spring Lambs

Seen on our daily "lock down" footpath walk. Appeared in the field since yesterday, probably turned out as better weather is forecast.

Celandines

Freshly out today's sunshine - harbingers of spring.

Ash Flowers

Ash tree flowers out before the leaves - seem to have a faint but delicate smell in the evening air, though not sure if it is them or something else on the breeze.

Spring

Must be spring now. Birds are starting to nest, frogs have appeared and catkins and pussy willows are out.

Snowdrops

First flowers in the garden, a sure sign that spring is on its way. The sun is shining too...

Bluebells II

English bluebells in flower in Ash Dale Wood in North Yorkshire, a real spring scene. These are the true English variety of bluebell not the Spanish invader seen in the previous post. The white flowers are ransomes, a type of wild garlic - edible but rather strong.

Baby Bird

Blackbirds in the nest. Spring is here!

Catkins

Spring is here: the alder tree is flowering, male catkins and smaller red female flowers on the same branch. Very delicate and colourful in close up. Not only that, as if to fully confirm spring's arrival, I've seen my first soft top cars with their roofs down!

Geese Flying North

Skein of geese flying north for summer. A sign that spring is here. They seem to think the weather is improving, or perhaps it's just good flying weather since the air pressure is high.

Hard Day's Work

Garden ready for planting.

Wood Anemones

Robin Hood's Howl in North Yorkshire: spring flowers on a sunny day, situated in a dry valley with a Celtic packhorse route running through it.

Celandines

Signs that spring is on its way are here. Celandines are out and snowdrops as well.

20 February 2010

Celandines

Spring is here at last and the sun is shining. It's almost got some warmth in it, and the snowdrops, crocuses and (very) early daffodils are out as well.
