Misericord

Medieval (C14) misericord from St Mary's Church, Beverley, showing bear baiting. Different view of cruelty then, though the bear seems to be wearing leather breeches the dogs have no protection. Poor animals.

Cottam

Deserted medieval village and derelict Victorian church on the Yorkshire Wolds.  Also nearby part of a runway from RAF Cottam a WW II bomber airfield.

Croom

The outline of buildings of the deserted medieval village of Croom can still be seen in the land. The ancient tree by the fence may have once grown in the boundary hedge. How different the view 600 years ago?

17th Century Key

Not bad condition for 300 or so years old. Still seems to have some traces of its original brazing, which can date it, as this was not used pre- late 1500s. Would have been very expensive when new - wonder who's treasure chest it secured and what history it's seen? We'll never know.

Keys to the Doors

But which doors?  The key above is around 500 years old and the one below some 250 years older than that. Each is about 12cm long.   I wonder where they've been, what history they've seen in their life so far and whose hands they've passed through?  Neither would appear to have been buried in the ground as they're not corroded enough.  At least they are keeping up with the times and have made it to cyberspace!
